Lockdown Training – Keeping Motivated

Despite the limitations of the last few months it has been great to see club members embracing new ways of training and competing, and also enjoying catching up with tri friends, albeit virtually.

Going Digital

With regular training cancelled, PT members have been enjoying Zoom training sessions covering a range of disciplines, including swim based exercises, stretching, yoga and pilates.

We have also organised a number of running challenges, with teams of three vying for the best combined time covering 1mile and 5k distances. It turns out that running a mile is much more painful than 5k. Cycling has not been neglected, with a time trial and hill climb event. As always there has been the usual good natured dispute over team choice from the more competitive amongst us (naming no names).

Getting Creative

Lockdown has forced us all to become more resourceful. Frank, our Club Chair, demonstrates what an effective multi-tasker he is, perfecting his swim stroke while also topping up his tan.

Appreciating Our Backyard

With exercise limited to our local area we have been reflecting on how fortunate we are to have access to the beautiful Pentland Hills. They really are a triathlete’s dream. It has been so nice to see PT members in passing while running, cycling and swimming.

The incredible weather during lockdown and the lack of normal swimming options seems to have tempted so many more people into the water at Harlaw and Thriepmuir. On some days with the sunbathers, paddle boarders and unicorn inflatables you could almost imagine it was the Mediterranean.

The last few months have been a strange time and exercise has played an important role in keeping spirits up. With news that restrictions are being eased a bit more we are now looking forward to the opportunity to train together again soon.

Solstice Triathlon 2022

We are planning to bring back the Pentland Triathletes Solstice Triathlon in 2022.
This is dependent on:

  • The dispersal of the tons of hardcore that have been dumped on our transition area
  • Plentiful water in Threipmuir reservoir
  • Land owner approval
  • No further pandemics

Latest Update: We are going ahead with the 2022 Solstice Triathlon. It will take place on the evening of the 21st June and entries are open on EntryCentral.
